10 Best Bullet Hell Games On Nintendo Switch
The Nintendo Switch may be known as a casual-friendly console, but these bullet hell games prove there’s a lot of action for players to experience.
This list will take you through all nine boss battles, and categorize them from the least to most difficult. We'll be taking when you fight them into consideration, as you will have access to fewer tools when facing off against earlier bosses. We'll also walk you through what makes each foe so tough.
We are basing these rankings on each boss as they appear on the medium difficulty, as that feels like the most balanced difficulty setting overall.
9 Mission 1 - Boss 2 - The Tentacled Terror
This squid-like foe isn't necessarily a breeze, but they do have quite a few things working against them. For starters, none of their tentacle-based attacks are that threatening. Their lasers are slow-moving, and there is always plenty of space to maneuver around them. Then, when the head comes out, it only has one attack, and it is pretty easy to avoid, though it will limit the amount of room you have to fly around (making those tendrils slightly more threatening).
However, the big strike against this squid is how many regular enemies are present on the screen, scurrying around on the ground below. They are all easily shot at, making them a nice source of energy if you are running low. That alone is enough to make this the easier boss of the bunch.
8 Mission 3 - An Arachnophobic Finale
The third missions boss joins the proud ranks of spider bosses in games, it is also one of the simpler bosses you will encounter in Cygni. When you are facing off against their head, you will need to dodge their laser as it sweeps from left to right. As this spider-like monstrosity waves its massive laser around, its millions of minions will be firing tons of bullets at you from the sidelines. Then, once you've done enough damage, you will be pushed away and forced to work through walls of web and destroy hundreds of its itty-bitty kin.
The thing is, you'll be fed a healthy amount of energy throughout this encounter. When you are pushed away you will be give a large amount, and destroy the smaller spiders will provide you with some as well. And while there are an awful lot of bullets on the screen, they are all pretty slow moving, making evading them relatively easy.
7 Mission 1 - Boss 3 - Between A Rock And A Hard Place
This boss will fill the screen with boulders, shattering them to cause even more obstacles in the form of debris. They will defend themselves by creating a giant ring of rocks, and they can pin you down with their lasers. So, they have plenty of obstacles to place in your way. That being said, most of their attacks are fairly slow, and have giant tells, giving you plenty of opportunities to position yourself favorably.

If you are looking to dominate the skies in Cygni: All Guns Blazing, this guide will kickstart your engines.
Moreover, since the projectiles they fill the screen with are rocks, you can actually shoot them out of the air, which is not common in Cygni. The biggest challenge you'll face is the pressure this boss places on your shoulders. Because if you do die, you will have to start the entire stage over again. But worry not, if you remain calm, and focus on dodging the rubble, you'll more than likely be fine.
6 Mission 2 - A Boss That'll Grind Your Gears
This boss has three components to it...
- On both of its shoulders, it has two sets of turrets that fire waves of projectiles.
- It has a central cannon that fires a giant laser beam.
- It has two limbs decked out in grinding wheels that it will pin you down with.
With the grinding wheels frequently limiting your range of motion, and the beam cannon splitting the screen down the middle, you would think that this would be a pretty tricky boss to overcome. However, the spread shot from the turrets leaves a lot of room between each bullet, making them relatively easy to move between, the central cannon needs to reveal itself before it can fire, giving you plenty of notice to get off to the size.
And those massive limbs equipped with the grinding wheels? They can't hit you if your ship is flying closer to the boss's body. On top of all that, destroying the turrets will provide you with energy to replenish your shields, and you'll be doing that a lot, since you can't damage the boss when its cannon is hidden. If you play your cards right, this boss can be overcome.
5 Mission 4 - The Tendrils From Down Below
With this boss, you will be facing off against the tendrils alone. In order to do damage, you'll aim at the head of this creature as it hangs out down below. As far as the tendrils are concerned, they will be pinning you down with lasers, placing freestanding laser traps, and firing waves of bullets at you. They can place a ton of projectiles on the screen and are effective at eliminating all safe spaces.
However, while these tendrils are great at isolating you and filling the battlefield with bullets, there is one element that will mitigate the challenge: taking out individual tendrils will yield energy. So, you will have an opportunity to recover if you do get banged up a little. Still, this can be a pretty tricky fight, and you can absolutely be overwhelmed.
4 Mission 5 - A Sting Ray That Does More Than Sting
On the face of it, a Cygni boss that will fire a beam down the center, while also having turrets on either side of it, isn't particularly new or exciting. However, the big difference here is how incredibly tightly these bullets are packed on the screen. On top of that, it also has the ability to start shooting out homing projectiles. The entire screen can, and will, be filled with danger.
That being said, this boss is also unique in that it is most challenging at the beginning of the encounter when all of its weapon systems are up and active. As you focus your fire on the turrets, and gradually destroy components of the ship, you will diminish how effective this boss is. During the later half of the battle, the laser beam cannon will start to be deployed, but by that point you will already have removed multiple turrets, making the screen more manageable. Still, the opening frames of this encounter are brutal, so it would be foolish to take this foe lightly.
3 Mission 6 - The Laser Show From Hell
When it comes down to it, the core challenge that many of these bosses provide is about limiting the amount of space you have to move your ship around bullets. This boss is that design principle taken to the furthest extreme. The screen will be filled with slowing-moving bullets, which wouldn't be particularly hard to move around, except that the boss will fire a split laser which will box you in.

When the three-laser variant is out, you will still have a healthy amount of space to move. But things get icky once you start dealing with eight lasers, forcing you to move within a minuscule amount of space. Worse yet, the lasers move, sometimes forcing you to survive in a space that is just barely wider than the width of your ship. Don't be surprised if this boss makes you repeat mission 6 more than a few times, as you are going to need to be pretty sharp to avoid being dismantled by these beams of death.
2 Mission 1 - Boss 1 - The Laser Spinning Spectacle
This is the first boss you face, so, you'll be facing them when you are the worst equipped you will ever be. Moreover, they will box you in with lasers, and force you to avoid waves of bullets as they spin around, which can be brutally difficult. It wouldn't surprise me if this boss has claimed more lives than every other boss in the game, including the one we put ahead of it on this list.
This is a tough one, as once you know the trick to beating it, this boss will become dramatically easier to beat - which is to fly around them as quickly as you can, causing their waves of bullets to become spaced out, giving you a path to fly in and avoid damage. But here's the thing, you run into them first, they are hard to kill with the base weapons, and that method for avoiding their bullets when they are spinning around is counter-intuitive. So, while this boss may be an early foe, we think they are easily among the toughest.
1 Mission 7 - They're The Final Boss For A Reason!
By far and away, the final boss is the toughest of the bunch. And this is for one reason more than any other: the first phase of this battle features the most brutal dodging section in the entire game. You will be boxed in, leaving you almost no space, and waves of bullets will be fired at you from behind. It is fiendishly difficult to not get hit here.
The rest of the battle is relatively difficult as well. Their central laser will split the screen, limiting your space, and if you get too close to them, you will be pushed away, further boxing you in. While you are pushed into a corner of the screen, you will need to contend with cannons firing waves of bullets that just barely leave enough room for your ship to weave between. Beating the final boss of Cygni will take precision positioning and deft dodging. It is easily the hardest boss you will encounter.
